Our Commitments
Every boat needs a compass, and these are the commitments we steer by. They come from Loyola Coffee Company Limited, trading as Coffee BOATS, and cover what we stand for, how we treat our team, the people who grow our coffee and everyone who drinks it, and how we look after the planet. Have a read, and if we ever drift off course, tell us.
Approved by our Board of Directors on 9 October 2026. (Version 1.0)
Our purpose
Our purpose is to earn a fair return while creating positive social and environmental impact. Socially, we give hiring priority to people facing barriers to work, and we commit a fixed share of our sales revenue to community programmes through Caritas Hong Kong. Environmentally, we minimise waste and act on our greenhouse gas emissions through our Climate Action Plan. We build this purpose into our strategy and the way we run our business, so that the impact we create supports our long-term success. Our directors consider the impact of every decision on all our stakeholders, not only our shareholders.
Fair work and wellbeing
We commit to paying every employee a living wage, and we never use unpaid trials or unpaid training. We recruit fairly, openly and accessibly, based only on what the job requires. We provide a safe and healthy workplace, support our people's wellbeing, give them a voice and help them to grow.
Justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying or retaliation in any part of employment or in work-related communications. We provide equal opportunity, review our practices for bias, and make reasonable adjustments so that our workplace is accessible. We give hiring priority to people facing barriers to work. We are committed to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in our operations, in how we serve our customers and in the communities where we work, and we apply this commitment to our policies and practices. We keep a JEDI action plan and report our progress to our Board and to the public.
Human rights
We commit to respecting human rights across our operations, supply chain and business relationships. We commit to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. We do not accept child labour, forced labour or modern slavery, and we expect the same of our suppliers. We buy coffee directly from producers who treat farmers and workers fairly, and we act to put right any harm we cause or contribute to.
Climate
We reduce waste and choose recyclable or compostable packaging. We measure our greenhouse gas emissions and publish our Climate Action Plan, and our Board reviews our progress.
Customers, marketing and data
Our product and impact claims are honest, factual and backed by evidence. We do not use misleading or manipulative marketing, and we are open about important limitations. We ask for consent before sharing anyone's story, image or testimonial, and we portray people with dignity. We are open about where our coffee comes from and keep records to trace it. Customers can easily contact us with questions or complaints, and we respond fairly and learn from what we hear. We handle personal data lawfully and securely, collect only what we need, use it only for the purposes we state and never sell it. If it is ever put at risk, we act promptly and notify those affected where required.
Ethics and integrity
We require our directors, employees and representatives to act with integrity in every dealing for us. We disclose and manage conflicts of interest, and anyone with a conflict steps back from the related decision. Anyone can raise a concern with us in confidence, and we protect them from retaliation. Concerns about our senior management go to our Board.
Lobbying and political engagement
We do not lobby. Coffee BOATS does not carry out lobbying or advocacy to influence public decisions, directly or through trade associations, consultants or other intermediaries. We make no political contributions and do not tolerate bribery or corruption. Before we start any such activity, our Board will approve a responsible lobbying policy consistent with the B Lab Standards, and we will update this statement.
Raising a concern
Anyone can raise a concern or grievance with us, including workers, suppliers, customers and community members. Contact info@coffeeboats.hk. Our stakeholder grievance procedure explains which grievances we accept, how we handle them and how long each step takes. We protect anyone who raises a concern from retaliation. Concerns about our senior management go to our Board.
